Synopsis:
'The Video Killed The Radio Star' will show you the secrets and ideas behind the most original and memorable music videos, at a time when the music video changed the way music was promoted and ultimately sold. By mixing the original videos with the director and artists' stories, we reveal the creative genius, production madness and general excesses from a time when music videos ruled the world. This DVD features the work of Australian director Russell Mulcahy. In the 1980s, famed for directing visually striking video clips, Mulcahy was one of the most sought-after video makers in the world, directing videos for some of the most successful pop and rock acts of that period.
He has the distinction of having directed the first music video ever aired on MTV: 'Video Killed The Radio Star' by The Buggles in 1981. Russell went on to make a name for himself as a film director, directing feature films such as 'Highlander', 'The Shadow', 'Resident Evil: Extinction' and 'Resurrection' to name a few. In 1986 Russell won the MTV's prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, along with numerous Grammy Awards for videos with Duran Duran. Later, in 1998 he was awarded the Eastman Kodak Award for Lifetime Achievement by the Music Video Production Association.
