The Shape of Water

Not as it may seem...

(Edit) 19/12/2019

Don't pass this one over thinking it's just another Monster or Aliens film - it's very far from that. In essence it's about love, pure and simple, and the good guys getting to win for a change. It's a real feel good film. A Sci-Fi buff will not like it but it's not that type of film in any way, just a tinge on the edge of the genre.

Glass

Needs a bit more background.

Sad that I spent 2/3rds of the film trying to work out what various references pointed to. If it had been made clear it was a sequel picking up from an earlier film (which was quite good) I'd have been right in the groove from the start. As a stand alone film it does not really work, you'd have to see the first one to get into it. Nowhere near as fresh and interesting as the first film but isn't that the way many 'cash in' sequels go?

Life

My rating is for the last 15 mins.

As an 'Alien' and 'Aliens' fan (I don't like the later ones) I found myself constantly noticing the similarities of scenes, settings an story line so I stopped doing that to just let it run.

The difference is during the ending, but no spoiler here, and for full effect, watch from the start and stick with it. I found it conveyed some very disturbing feelings but it may not have the same effect on others. Well worth a watch if you like SF Horror.

Fisherman's Friends

A Nice Watch

(Edit) 06/11/2019

Amusing at times and touching on social issues in others, quite refreshing to watch during a 'chiil out'.

The Girl in the Spider's Web

The Girl with the....

My title sums up any similarity quite well because that's where it ends. If you liked the original trilogy of books and films it may disappoint. It's nothing like, although it is a reasonable stand-alone crime drama.

Song for Marion

A Hidden Gem

(Edit) 08/10/2019

If you like British Films in the style of 'Saving Grace', 'The Quartet' and many others, this is for you. It's about real and ordinary people, warts, faults and all. It is very sad at times but uplifting at others, especially when a tiny glimmer of humour pops up. It makes you think and then apply it to your own life with the losses of loved ones along the way. Overall we felt it gave hope although we are expecting to lose Parents we adore quite soon, and it can show how some estranged relationships of Parents and Children can be partly healed by loss.
