Judging by the reviews I had read, I was not sure whether I would enjoy this film. Wow! I would certainly recommend it.
A child's fairy tale set against quite a brutal background. It certainly kept me guessing right up to the end.
It reminded me of nasty stories read to me as a child that were supposed to make you behave yourself. A very good film.
This is one of the best films I have ever seen. It traces the events that led to the end of apartheid in South Africa. The acting is excellent and so natural.
I enjoy watching films that are full of action, exciting and centre on gross injustices. This is not a film for those who prefer fantasy or romance. The only criticism I have is that, at times, the music was a little on the loud side and I had to turn the volume down, (didn't want to annoy the neighbours).
All in all, an excellent film. Catch a Fire will certainly be on my Christmas list.
I enjoyed Letters from Iwo Jima more but this film was OK. I do think that the Japanese version of this battle was more realistic as I don't think that many people can go to war and never feel scared.
However, the acting was good . It centres on minor details too much for my liking. As war films go, I would rate it as average.
The ending is worth waiting for. I think that this film would appeal to most people as it is part fantasy, part crime and partly historical.
I found it enjoyable and a good yarn - a bit of a fairy tale for adults with a real twist. My rating is above average.
