The Deep End

In at the deep end...

(Edit) 26/10/2008

A young man is discovering his sexuality while embarking on a relationship with a slightly older man. His mother discovers and asks the 'older man' to end the relationship - who fails to heed her words; and so begins the start of the 'thriller'? I use the term 'thriller' loosely, because while the film kept me entertained for the duration - it had no thrills and no spills.

The somewhat weak & predictable storyline plods along slowly with no excitement or edge of seat thrills and yet it is strangely compelling. Centering around a video of the young man with his older lover, will his mother succeed in her quest to protect her son?

Mamma Mia!

Bringing it up

(Edit) 17/11/2008

Mamma Mia is a fabulous movie for bringing your mood up! With the greatest hits of the fabulous ABBA the story surrounds an engaged girl in search of her father. Set in a lovely backdrop with lots of sunshine you'll soon be tapping your feet, moving your lips and dancing in your seat!

Prom Night

Are you going to the Prom?

(Edit) 08/12/2008

I had some doubts when I added this to my list, but those doubts disappeared when i put the DVD in the machine.

A good storyline which in part (at least) is believable, Chuck in some fairly talented new actors and you have a reasonable film.

The film revolves around an American school girl in her last year, who has unwittingly been the centre of the unwanted affection of a teacher, whom is placed in a secure unit! However he escapes and so begin the story of young love, school leaving, friendship and murder mayhem!

If you like the horror/slasher/ genre this might be for you, but don't expect too many twists or turns or too much blood come to that.

Candy

Not so sweet Candy!

(Edit) 20/10/2008

I am not a fan of drug related films, but for some reason I put this in my list. When it started playing I found myself engrossed, and although there was no strong storyline in as much as there was no edge of the seat drama, it is a story that could be told over and over again in real life.

As their addiction grows you find a sense of sympathy for them, realising how easy it has been for them to fall into their new found lifestyle. One of the most shocking things for me was the lengths at which they'd both go to feed their habit, nothing was sacred anymore.

Things take a turn for the worst and she gets pregnant - but will she be able to cope with a baby and her addiction? Is the baby her boyfriends or one of her punters?

Either way this film is gripping for different reasons, other than edge of the seat thrills. It opens your eyes to a world which you'd otherwise only read about in the papers.
