The Dark Knight

A Very Dark Night Befell Us

(Edit) 25/12/2008

I went along to this expecting a somewhat harder storyline, but was astounded by the violence, noise and documentary style of a very dark film. I fear the team responsible for this have forgotten just how daft, batty, ludicrous and just plain nuts the Batman series has been! Jim Carey, Jack Nicholson, Tommy Lee Jones amongst others, including an incredibly sexy and OTT catwoman, have all stepped up to the plate and played their roles perfectly, to our expectations. However this latest offering appears to be nothing more than an appeasement to the die-hard gore seekers. Yes there are memorable moments and at points I felt some scenes were thrown in just as a casual nod to Batman of old, to try and keep us oldies happy. But the sheer level of violence and realism throughout left me cold. If this is entertainment, leave me out of it. I felt I was watching a training video for aggression and insanity at times, and this is one film that I will not revisit.

Ghost Whisperer: Series 1

Great Start

(Edit) 25/01/2010

Jennifer Love Hewitt plays the lead role in this, as well as producing it, and does a fantastic job at both. A very promising start and the first four episodes seen so far certainly moved us both to some overly emotional moments. However, having seen an episode from a later series, it seems the programme gets hit by the usual Americanism of over sensationalsm and stupidity. A shame to waste such a good premise in favour of hitting the audience. Still, We'll enjoy watching the first episodes until the show goes for the brain dead.

Starhyke: Series 1

Appalling - Star Tripe

(Edit) 25/01/2010

This show is utterly appalling – watch it only if you want to be entertained by a constant stream of idiotic one-liners and a pathetic attempt to extract a gag (make you gag?) at every word and movement in the show. Sure there’s a plot, and if the writers had tried a little harder and not given in to letting every contributor get away with inserting their half-baked, ill-conceived humour, they may have made a reasonable show. What on earth is this trend for utter drivel? Even a vegetable would switch its own life support off rather than endure this. We watched the first disc of (thankfully) only 2 episodes. No more. Never again. I’d rather watch paint dry. Unfortunately this rubbish will probably attain cult status. I guess humanity is devolving faster than we realise. For heaven’s sake shoot the writers before they get the chance to have another go.
