This is one of those rare works that doesn't sound one wrong note. Everything is perfectly timed and balanced and the result is gently funny while also poignant. Wonderfully original and quirky it is ultimately about loss and how we attempt to cope with it. Brilliant casting and fantastic use of the English countryside. It is genius and, hopefully, will be recognised as a classic. Fantastic--must go and watch it again!

This is a fabulous series--more intriguing and far subtler than the spin-off, Homeland. It's believable while at the same time having a slightly surreal undercurrent. The emphasis is on the psychological and the characters have real depth. Can't wait to see series 2. While Homeland quickly disappointed, Prisoners starts from a stronger foundation and promises to become more complex as it goes on.
