Synopsis:
Collection of short documentaries on social issues of the 1940s from the groundbreaking British film maker, Kay Mander. 'Highland Doctor' (1943) follows a doctor working in the Outer Hebrides and discusses the medical facilities available in the surrounding area. 'New Builders' (1944) looks at school students in training to become construction workers to rebuild what was destroyed during the war. 'Penicillin' (1944) documents the search for a gas gangrene cure and the discovery of the antibiotic, penicillin. 'Homes for People' (1945) reveals the poor state of housing in Britain.
Finally, 'A Plan to Work' (1948) looks at how the town of Dunfermline developed and what changes lay ahead in the future.
