ROCKPALAST is a legendary live music TV show hosted in Germany by the WDR channel. It first broadcast in 1974 and has become a pan-European television institution. It has its own fan club and online forum, and in almost four decades, it has become a trademark of quality viewing and listening.Although best known as a founding member of British rock legends Family, in actual fact, singer Roger Chapman's solo career now spans five decades. This show from 1979 catches him in hot rocking mode. The performance from Hamburg in November ended an epic year for the singer - his solo career had just kicked off with the Chappo LP, and three months before, he had recorded his noted Live In Hamburg album at the same Markthalle venue. The TV executives present at the gig demanded a repeat performance for the cameras. The Shortlist (named after a Mickey Jupp song) included seasoned veterans Tim Hinkley (piano), Jerome Rimson (bass), Stretch (drums) and Nick Pentelow (sax). Ex-Humble Pie guitarist Clem Clempson, drafted in for a UK tour, gave way to Geoff Whitehorn, who has become a long-time associate in Roger's bands. Backing singers Helen Hardy and Kathi O Donoghue added a soulful feel to numbers like Bo Diddley , Hoochie Coochie Man and Can't Turn You Loose .Highlights include 1972 Family hit single Burlesque (a real rarity in his early solo sets) and a cover of the Rolling Stones Let's Spend The Night Together , released as a single.24-page booklet includes quotes and reminiscences from pianist & musical director Tim Hinkley and sax player Nick Pentelow.
