Synopsis:
Ron Arad gives the camera access to his creative and personal space. He is shown both at work and while thinking. The designer speaks of his approach and his reasoning, as well as his uniqueness. Combining warmth with a certain opaqueness, Ron reigns over his team of fifteen young designers and architects with an iron fist in a velvet glove. The objects he creates give off a somewhat disturbing aura: sometimes the deep sofas seem to be cradled in frames made of bombs or shells, about to explode. Organic, yet chilly; hard as steel yet voluptuous... they contain something of both the assault tank and the sheet of paper.
The Bookworm bookshelf, an emblematic design object, is a rare example of supple form and curved line in book storage. This documentary gives voice to its creator, Ron Arad, a major figure in contemporary design, and explores the history of this piece of furniture, which is, to say the least, original. The choice of the Bookworm, in particular, raises an essential question: that of the role of bookshelves and the library in our lives, and how we transmit knowledge through writing, the traditional foundation of our collective memory.
