These programmes trace the history of the railways of the north east of England and those major companies which came together to form the London and North Eastern Railways. We examine the railways that served the Midlands and industrial north west, from the London and North Western Railway through the Lancashire, Yorkshire and Midland to the LMS. The southern part of England was dominated by two great railway systems, the Great Western Railway and those lines which came together to form the Southern Railway. Scotland and Wales have their own peculiar railway histories, and this programme gives an overall look at each. This DVD covers all the key trains that were so characteristic of their countries.
