Dave Allen: The Best Of
Overrated comedy
I like a lot of old comedy from this era, and I like a monologue presentation style, but this collection from Dave Allen does not make me laugh. I won't deconstruct the reasons too much. Just because something is silly does not make it funny.
Caligula
WARNING this is the 90 minute heavilly edited & censored version
Seek out the full version of this film instead (120mins or more). There is far too much of the film edited out in this 90 minute version - and the context of the scenes and plot is completely lost. At 90 mins you are not seeing the real film and why it was, and still is, so controversial. Watch the real version - you'd never watch this with your Gran no matter how much editing is done, so watch the real one!
The Buddha of Suburbia
Unexpectedly good and succinct.
Really enjoyed this. Unlike most TV series' that drag on-and-on nowadays, this is short and exciting. Each episode has a unique feel and it really captures particular atmospheres and character types very well.
