I was looking forward to this film because I love Cate Blanchett and it sounded like an interesting concept.
However I found the monologues dull and didn't think Cate delivered them well. Her accents were all over the place. Needless to say, I didn't make it to the end.
Pili is a remarkable woman and we are with her through every step of her struggle to fulfil her dream.
It was a fascinating snapshot of life in rural Tanzania and the scenes of the countryside are glorious. It was an emotional and life affirming journey.
I don't usually see films of this genre but because of all the hype, gave it a go. The plot was muddled and the phoney African accents grated. I fell asleep!
The main character Laure/Mikel is a wonderful actor. The film captured what a young person having gender issues must go through. My only criticism is that the pacing was a bit too slow, but I understand that the director intended this to emphasise how things evolved for Laure in her new skin.
