Outstanding acting from two superb actors. Steve Coogan in particular was utterly convincing as Stan Laurel. I was never bothered about Laurel & Hardy re-runs as a kid (I’m a 1970’s child), I enjoyed Harold Lloyd more, but I love biopics - often entertaining and educational insights into the lives of well-known figures one wouldn’t ordinarily look up. This film was no exception. A funny, tragic, heartwarming and heartbreaking account of the final years of two of the most famous and celebrated performers of their time, who worked themselves into the ground for others in the end because they didn’t change with the times or take ownership of their own work when they had the chance. If you are a Laurel & Hardy devotee and want lots of clips of their best work you’ll be disappointed, but if you are interested in the real behind the scenes chaos, personalities and interrelationships, with some laugh out loud moments you’ll love it!
