High and Low

A Master Film

(Edit) 04/02/2021

One that i would easily put amongst the very best i've seen overall, a classic of it's kind and well worth seeing.

The only problem is that it is not available on Blu-ray as The Criterion Collection Edition which is in this superior format (especially for the older features) is only available in the Americas on Region A, it really ought to be made available for the other regions.

Red Beard

Another Master Film from Kurosawa & Co.

(Edit) 24/06/2020

Moving, Humane, and an outstanding production all in all, what else to say?

Just to say that i give it 5 stars and that i would highly recommend it.

The Gladiator

An Enjoyable not so well known movie from the 80's

(Edit) 24/06/2020

I liked the style of the film and the performances, especially from Ken Wahl in the lead role - The Gladiator.

It's not a 'Masterpiece' but it doesn't strive to be, a good solid action packed drama/thriller i would recommend.

The Day the Earth Stood Still

A Cinematic Sci-Fi Classic

(Edit) 24/06/2020

And i for one think there shouldn't be any doubt about that.

It's a film with a big message that still resonates today, to look beyond division and set aside these differences to work for the common good. Some of the effects were a little suspect however, like the wires in one scene near the end which were horribly obvious, but aside from that the original 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' has stood the test of time to remain one of the great films leaning more towards the Science Fiction Genre.

I personally have no desire to see the remake released in 2008.

Excellent quality on Blu-ray too i might add.

Cisco Pike

A 70's Movie with Style

(Edit) 18/06/2020

A really good performance from Kris Kristofferson in his first starring role with excellent songs performed for the enjoyable soundtrack too.

I enjoyed the movie, and the other characters featured in it, most noably Gene Hackman's odd cop Officer Leo Holland, plus Harry Dean Stanton's Jesse Dupre and Antonio Fargas's short appearance as 'Buffalo' and not to forget Karen Black as Cisco Pike's (Kristofferson's) lady also very good.

Though i found it did go a bit awry near the end i would recommend the movie.

Notorious

Classic Hitchcock Directed Suspense

(Edit) 18/06/2020

Excellently filmed, produced and performed with Cary Grant & Ingrid Bergman a True Dynamic Duo at the heart of the film.

it's only a shame that it's not available on Blu-ray but the DVD quality is fine enough, highly recommended.

The Andromeda Strain

An Immersive & Gripping Masterwork of Cinema

(Edit) 18/06/2020

A Drama leaning towards Science Fiction that i found totally compelling, especially to view with the big bad viral issue, or crisis of confusion going on in 2020.

It's such a well thought out plot with much to it, like the top secret multi layered underground facility with it's many procedures & protocols, established for viral containment, with a virus from out of this World.

It was surely cutting edge upon release in 1971, and still is in it's own way.

It's also in excellent quality on Blu-ray.

Highly Recommended.
