This is now one of my favourite films - gorgeous to look at, especially the ferry and the train journey from the castle, and I loved the wonderfully bright, intense colours. The story is engagingly told and the little girl and surrounding characters very likeable - even the villain is rather likeable, in her own scary way. The episode with the river god who comes in for a bath is a highlight. Magical and full of charm.
