This would have made a decent Star Trek episode, but is a stretch at 1 hour 40 minutes. The amity of the two warring races, human and Drak, is too easily achieved. There is no tension, no possibility of betrayal, only a few moments of suspicion at the start. There seems very little in the end to be overcome by the two protagonists in order to become friends. In fact, the whole interstellar war background seems designed only to bring these two characters together in what is essentially a buddy movie. But their amity, once achieved, has some very moving moments. Overall I found the film had very much worn out its welcome by the end.
