In the wake of his incurable cancer diagnosis and the death of his brother, Luke sets off on a tandem bike expedition not knowing if he will survive long enough to reach his destination. His resolve is soon tested when he crosses freezing Ukraine alone. In Mariupol, he meets 'vigilante' pastor, Gennadiy, who urges Luke to find his "super motivation". Luke is inspired to share his CanLiver message as he rides around the world. One son gets diagnosed with incurable cancer, one son dies and then her husband leaves. Luke's stoical mum Jenny cycles with him across Georgia. Deep tension exists in a family torn apart by tragedy. Luke rediscovers the joy and meaning of his ride when he is joined by other CanLivers, yet he still has to face the uncertainty of living from one scan to the next. Luke crosses India with Dev, the unlikely schoolboy CanLiver whose mum sacrificed everything to keep him alive. Luke observes Dev's loving relationship with his mum and wonders if that is possible for him. The journey to Beijing takes an unexpected turn and ends in a whole new world.
