Part three-completes the story of the American Landings and covers the British, Canadian and other Allies landing on Gold, Juno and Sword beaches. First to land in the east was the 6th British airborne who landed on the Eastern end of the attack to defend the Eastern flank of the beaches at the same time destroying batteries and bridges while holding others. By D-Day plus 1 the Allies had not achieved many of their D-Day objectives, but they had gained a foothold strong enough to guarantee the freedom of Europe.
