Synopsis:
When the Fire Burns is a musical documentary portrait. Shot throughout Spain and Argentina, the film captures the rich sensuality of his music, in counter-point to the near monastic austerity of de Falla's life. Featured are performances by Charles Dutoit and the Montréal Symphony Orchestra, Teresa Berganza, Alicia de Larrocha, Narciso Yepes, Nicanor Zabaleta, and gypsy flamenco singers and dancers. Directed by Larry Weinstein, best known for known for Burnt Toast, Our Man in Tehran and Ravel's Brain. Including the full performance of Nights in the Gardens of Spain.
A music film combining night-time footage of the Alhambra, the Moorish palace and gardens atop the hills of Granada, with a stunning performance of de Falla's masterpiece by pianist Alicia de Larrocha.
