Synopsis:
Entirely composed of actual footage with over 60% of new material this epic story is breathtaking stuff. William Wyler's classic colour film Memphis Belle remains the most memorable true story of WWII. Now Producer William Woollard reveals the whole story adding more than 60% more remarkable and hitherto unseen footage. The Memphis Belle was only one plane in the awesome fighting machine that was the United States 8th Force. America's largest overseas combat air force, it eventually grew to over 3,500 bombers and fighters. Part 2 of this film reveals the full story of its operations between 1943 and 1945.
The recruiting and training of pilots: the development of B17's and Mustangs in the US, years of immensely courageous raids, in broad daylight, right across Europe, from the Baltic to oil refineries in Romania. In WW2 this mighty air force lost over 55,000 young men. Thousands of B17's and B24's were shot out of the sky. And in 1945 a B29 ended the war with Enola Gay and the atomic bomb.
