Spitfire: A British Icon (2011)

On March 5th, 1936, the Spitfire made its maiden flight. It was the birth of a legend that has carried on down the decades. Wherever a Spitfire flies, heads, both young and old turn skywards! This video presents the history of the Spitfire, using archive and original footage, and features interviews with pilots to find out what it is about the craft that makes it so enduring. Using additional archive, original footage, and computer graphics this video looks at how the spitfire came into being; how it was transformed into a very effective fighter through numerous marks; and the challenges of restoring them and keeping them flying today.
