Synopsis:
During Matt Busby's 25 year reign at Old Trafford he built three great teams. They won five league championships, two FA Cups and were the first English side to win the European Cup. This unique video features rare archive material, including behind the scenes footage which has never been seen before. We follow Busby's appointment as manager in 1945 when he built his first great side, captained by the legendary Johnny Carey. They would win the FA Cup in 1948 and the league title in 1952. In the early 1950's Busby took the bold step of placing his faith in youth. The Busby Babes were born.
Winning back to back titles in 1956 and 1957, Manchester United looked forward to a decade of dominating English football. Then came the Munich air disaster. On the 6th of February 1958 seven of the team died, followed 15 days later by their talisman, Duncan Edwards. Recovered from his own injuries and driven on by the memory of his lost Babes, Matt Busby built a third team; some of them survivors of Munich like Bobby Charlton, others were young lads in the image of the Babes like George Best and Denis Law. Winning the 1968 European Cup Final would be the culmination of all the dreams, as Manchester United and Matt Busby finally fulfilled their destiny.
