Teachers: Series 1

A great insight into the first year of a teachers life.

(Edit) 11/09/2006

I have seen parts of the third series, I was expecting more of the same from the first series. This proved not to be the case. The third series is more funny and surreal than this instalment. The differences aside I would still heartily recommend this series for any which have not seen it.

The star of the show in Andrew Lincoln (Egg from 'This Life'), he is a believable and talented actor and plays the part of the central character. The show focuses on the his first year as an English teacher and the highlights key points which any would-be or newly qualified teacher would have thought about/experienced. His main dilemma is trying to achieve a balance between being popular with his students and actually teaching his pupil what they need to know in order to pass there English GCSE.

Overall the first series is not as surreal as the latter ones and the focus is on just one character. Well worth a watch.

Enemy at the Gates

Highlights the depravity of war

(Edit) 11/09/2006

This film focuses on the central character who is a sniper for the Russian army during the German's siege of Stalingrad. The film is very well made and encapsulates how horrible it must have been in the city at that time. The film is very atmospheric and keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat throughout. I am a big fan of war films and would place this one up there with the best, having a new perspective to offer the viewer on the depravity of war.

The first level of the Russian campaign in the video game 'Call of Duty' is based on the opening scenes of this film.

Over all this film is very atmospheric, different and well acted. Well worth a watch.

The Prophecy

Average

(Edit) 26/09/2006

Apart from the brilliant perforance from Christopher Walken the film is pretty average and at times fairly religious. The plot is fairly weak and the direction is uninspired.

Worth a look, to see Christopher Walken in an early role, played in a cold, unshakable display of acting.
