Bombay Beach

A blast from the past

(Edit) 30/10/2018

I remembered this place when I lived in California in the sixties, also looking for the American dream. Even though there were plenty of empty lots it had hope for the future and with my visiting parents we danced the night away at the local hotel.

But all that’s gone except for the shattered lives of some of the residents and others that forced themselves into the other world and a future. I think that this film captured all this including the depressive quality that surrounds failour , not something that most people particularly American find easy .

Barbara

A most unusual love story

(Edit) 20/06/2018

Superb acting wonderful pace, the suggestion that love, and commitment is just as important as political freedom is a very thoughtful challenge. I watched this twice , the second time with a friend who didn’t quite get it at first so we stopped it frequently to discuss . Not the best way to watch a movie especially one so tense , but it clarified what was going on . Not to be missed.

A thankless task

(Edit) 07/03/2018

I was recently in Jerusalem and got chatting to one of these conscripted girls who was also quite depressed with her job. I thought this film captured the dilemma that young Israelis often have to suffer .
