Sweetgrass

Avoid

(Edit) 28/07/2011

I have already written a review for this but it hasn't been published because the main criticism was reserved for Cinema Paradiso. Both on the CP website and on the label of the DVD this film states that French actors Juliette Binoche and Daniel Auteil are in the cast. Indeed I only came across this title because of a search with the actors. They aren't in this film. This is a turgidly boring, self-indulgent documentary that is not worth wasting 110 minutes of your life with.

I only got it because of an error by Cinema Paradiso and 2 days on I still am waiting for an explanation/apology not to mention a credit for YOUR ERROR!!!!!!

Leaving

So French!

(Edit) 14/05/2011

Portrayal of a marriage breakdown that becomes rather poignant. Divorce in modern French society is obviously less fair than you may expect.

Eden

Surprising

(Edit) 16/10/2009

I hadn't heard of this film before but thought it sounded interesting. It is a wee gem of a German film that is very French in style. There are elements of other foodie films such as Tampopo and Babette's Feast running through this and the small child is a terrific actress. No heavy storylines or moral judgements - just a different film that is so unlike any Hollywood production-line number!

Gigantic

Crikey!

(Edit) 19/01/2010

If you were to toddle off to Marks & Spencer and buy a bumper pack of briefs each week for a year you still wouldn't have as big a pile of pants as this dire film.

I was encouraged by the cast - including John Goodman and Ed Asner but the lack of any storyline and purpose is a major flaw in any narrative. Avoid

Hammers Over the Anvil

Don't!

(Edit) 16/10/2009

Yes - Russell Crowe is in it and usually I'm a fan of Australian films as they are so open and refreshing. This unfortunately is the cinematic equivalent of concealed grease. It is dull, unappealing and leaden - avoid.

The Custodian

Mixed bag

(Edit) 16/10/2009

Love Anthony LaPaglia's performances and was looking forward to this. He is as reliable as ever and intersting storyline of corruption in the force - or is it? But what was wrong with Huso Weaving? He performs as a substituted AmDram performer from the home counties. It is hysterical but not intentional.
