The Tree of Life

Imitation of a European Art Film

(Edit) 18/10/2013

I agree with a previous review.Tedious comes to mind. Slow with stilted acting. A film like a book has to grab the attention at the start. This didn't. The female actor seemed anaemic. I couldn't sit it out. As a copy of a European art film it failed. Couln't watch it the end. Disappointing.

The Artist

Over rated

(Edit) 30/09/2013

After all the hype I was looking forward to watching this film. Sadly it did nothing for me. Maybe a twenty first version of black and white films requires a certain outlook and if that's the case, the directors and actors didn't have it. It was wooden, the pace slow, no hook that got me. I couldn't be bothered to watch it to the end and that's not because I'm into Hollwood high colour, high action films. For example, Coppola's Rumble Fish shot maily black and white with flashes of colour shows how it can be done. But this didn't reach the mark and Coppola's a master film maker.

11'09''1: September 11

An International Perspective on 9.11

(Edit) 09/09/2013

We all know we're not the centre of the universe. This film shows it. We have 11 interpretations of 9.11 and guess what,N.Y isn't the focus or not always.

The directors are international with their own and separate stories, some factual, some imagined, some humourous, some tragic, the quality variable but still gripping. I have my favs. but to tell wd. be to spoil but I'd say this is one of the most moving films I've ever watched and that comes with some of the most quirky takes on what others were doing on 9.11. Not all glued to the screen that's for sure.

Mostly Martha

A 'feel good' film with depth

(Edit) 24/08/2013

The female head chef of a smart restaraunt is stereotypically Germanic, obsessive, uptight, perfectionist about her work and food until she has to face two life crises; her sister is killed in a car crash leaving her to look after her 8 year old niece, and an Italian chef is hired. Sensitive, empathic, the inevitable happens.A film with a happy ending. Trajedy with a light touch, and beautifully acted.
