This riveting Scandinavian noir thriller stars Tuva Novotny as a woman who awakens on a remote riverbank with a head wound, a bag with 2 million Euros and no memory of what happened or who she is. Attempting to piece together the complex mystery of her past, she soon realises there are violent strangers on her tail and her life is in grave danger.
This was a very sophisticated, well acted and directed thriller, spoilt by one glaring error of practicality. The character of Aliena/Ida seemed to travel around Europe with no travel documents. I could believe this was possible when she was escaping from the thugs by car with her brother from the Netherlands to France. However, I do not think she would have been able to board the bus from Monpellier to Copenhagen without a passport or ID card, neither of which she had. A plea to directors/writers: please do not insult the intelligence of your viewers!
On the one hand some of the violence is sickening and unpalatable; on the other there are some charming and compelling parts to the plot. Generally the pace speeds and slows often enough to keep it interesting, the time line is easy to follow but unpredictable. The idea of re-orientating with a genuine memory loss is engrossing and novel and the characters believable and moving. Worth a watch.
