The Boy and the Beast

Top notch animation

More action packed and (mildly) violent that the average Ghibli movie. Has humour, action, sadness and several positive messages dealt with in a light-handed manner. Should particularly resonate with children/teens and parents. 4/5 because the third act is a bit of a let down.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

Almost unwatchable but unmissable

(Edit) 09/02/2019

I found this a very disturbing, discomforting, unpleasant watch. I rate it an excellent movie because I admire its ability to provoke such powerful emotions. and in such an unusual way. The tone and dialogue is jarring but if you invest in it the tension really builds. The characters' behaviour is so alien, emotionally suppressed and weirdly detached there is no on-screen emotional release and the viewer is left to struggle with it all alone. If you like this then Dogtooth is a must see (and vice versa).
