Trying to be deep and provocative but ultimately banal

(Edit) 25/04/2019

This film tries to be arty in blending a perspective technique with elements of horror and allegory. There is pretty obvious Christian symbolism mixed in with archetypes of the natural world, such as Mother Earth. They are rather clumsy and ill matched and the overall message is a rather obvious and banal one that we are treating the planet appallingly. And of course, yes we are, but this obvious didactic message in this medium is really not going to provoke people to think or act, and with all that violence it is not particularly entertaining.

Leave classy mysterious films which require the viewer to work to decode them while being entertained to Lynch and Bunuel.

Great cast, but JL is characteristically vacuous.
