I found Stations of the Cross rather a bleak film made watchable by some excellent performances, most notably by Lea van Acken, the young star.

As a woman who also comes from a Catholic family (although thankfully not such a fundamentalist one as that depicted here), watching Maria's struggles with normal teenage instincts versus the dictates of inflexible religious beliefs brought back quite a few memories for me personally - not all of them particularly happy ones.
