Mercury's fascinating life history deserves a better film treatment than this watered down script can offer. The overwhelming feeling throughout is that the interests of the remaining members of Queen are prioritized over truth and verisimilitude. A good performance from Malik can't prevent this from being a pruriently censored account of Mercury's personality and especially of his sexuality. Brian May seems wants to paint himself as the creative force behind the band, which is a mistake as he has the personality of a dead dog, and despite being a producer of te movie appears as much of an asshole on film as he does in life.
