Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Where are people?

(Edit) 10/01/2020

Shockingly bad. Action sequences that you can't see, apparently no daylight ever, cities containing no people, central characters that you are supposed to root for but are simply self absorbed horrible people, good actors left just to look at screens and state the obvious...

A big budget mess which is s shame as the director has done good work previously

Scribe

Disappointing

(Edit) 11/12/2019

Initially intriguing and sinister, this movie echoes elements of The Lives of Others and even, Fincher's The Game.

Unfortunately the movie dips in quality during the second half as the lead character's general meekness and his counter intuitive decisions make it difficult for the viewer to root for him.

A muddled third act and a poorly drawn main character makes this an unsatisfying experience

Backtrace

A pudding

(Edit) 18/11/2019

I knew this was going to be bad the moment Stallone was second billed behind someone I've never heard of.

No characterisation, no characters to root for, lazy direction, incoherent story and soap opera acting.

Stallone must've owed someone a favour to appear to appear in this tripe

Gangster Land

Poundland Untouchables

(Edit) 18/10/2019

This movie strives to be The Untouchables from the opening quote to the Morricone-style score, it fails. The movie jumps from scene to scene with no grace, tension or heart.

Faris is a terrible lead, a character introduced as an Irishman in an Italian family which is never explained. The better actors Jason Patric, Don Harvey and Mark Ralston are either wasted in glorified cameos or killed off too early.

On the plus side, production values are good

The Vanishing

A Scottish version of A Simple Plan

(Edit) 24/07/2019

Tense, well-acted but its hard to overlook the fact that it is very similar to Sam Raimi's A Simple Plan. Especially as it sluggishly reaches its conclusion.

Overall I enjoyed it though
