A cruel finale saw the Seasiders slip into the relegation zone, but they went down with the whole nation willing them to survive. The opening day 4-0 thrashing of Wigan quickly poured scorn on all those who had written them off before the season began. The team s entertaining and free-flowing football brought them an unforgettable double over Liverpool, and a handsome 3-1 victory over Spurs who had just turned over AC Milan.
