Synopsis:
We take a delightful train journey through the south west of Scotland with its towns and villages, craggy hillsides and castles, streams and lakes and harbours and beaches. Our excursion begins at Largs, a popular seaside resort, on a Class 318 EMU operated by Strathclyde Transport and then heads south passing the Hunterston Ore Terminal and nuclear power station. Watch in awe as a train tests the strength of a nuclear flask in a staged crash before travelling on to West Kilbride. Here there are spectacular views across the Firth of Clyde to the beautiful island of Arran.
Next our journey takes us to Ardrossan with its branch line and three stations before we head to the busy junction at Kilwinning. Then we are on to the towns of Irvine and Troon as the railway follows the river back to the sea past historic buildings and magnificent scenery. The final leg of the journey leads us through Ayr, Prestwick and ends at Stranraer where the train runs out along the pier to connect with ferries to Ireland.
