Born and grew up in the turbulent years between the two world wars, the young Ip Man (Kevin Cheng) finds his fortune in the fighting sports arenas of Canton. There he meets not only his first Wing Chun teacher Yu Fung-Kau (Rongguang Yu), but also his sandbox friend Cheung Wing-Shing (Cecila Han). But the events in the arenas and also in Ip Man's own life are reflected in the turmoil of the civil war. Soon the fight will not take place in tournaments.
