- Synopsis:
A Britcom gem from the 1970's, with a main character so loathsome hes irresistible. Its lodgers versus landlord in this brilliantly written, brilliantly acted British comedy classic. Leonard Rossiter stars as miserly, mean-spirited Rupert Rigsby, the prying, preening landlord of a seedy boarding house. Rigsby engages in an ongoingand losingbattle of wits with university students and regular tenants Alan (Richard Beckinsale) and Philip (Don Warrington). In Series 3, new tenants include a flamboyant actor (Peter Bowles) and an exotic dancer, who test Rigsbys narrow mind and lecherous instincts. Early on, lovelorn Ruth (Frances de la Tour) to the house after a failed engagement, delighting Rigsby and cranking up the hilarity with his clumsy courting attempts and her refined rebuffs.
