Mother!

Ten minus stars

(Edit) 19/06/2018

Utter tripe; insulting and bordering on pornographic violence - an insult to the audience. However, if your'e a pretentious, sneering artsy nobody, for whom the proles exist to bolster your shaky claim to superiority, and who actually believe that bad taste is good art, that boundaries are there to be trampled in the name of art, that wallowing in the pain and human waste of atrocity is progressive, then feast away, it's just up your pathetic street - where the rest of us hope you'll stay - but above all - stay indoors.

Pretentious rubbish

If, like me, you have a serious difficulty in falling asleep - watch this. I can't think of a better cure for insomnia. The film is also an excellent choice for those who want to invite relatives round for an evening - those relatives who you really can't stand; family who you would be genuinely pleased to see that they truly had nothing at all in common with you, and perhaps as a result - stay away.

I really thought that this was one of those those French film scripts that Gere has plundered in the past to show off his 'intellectual credentials', it would have been no surprise to see that it originated as an art house offering, so dire and excruciating was its presentation. At best it was a really good example of the balance between what is exceptionally good currently, and what is extraordinarily bad. It is also an excellent film to expose completely pretentious wankers who gush about such tripe as if it was high art, to which only they are able to decipher and comment knowingly upon, before pontificating about to us proles. I should have know that when the silly graphics appear with stars all over the text, that what this really means is that it is going be complete tosh.

Gifted

A very gifted actress

This is an uncomfortably good film. It's uncomfortable because it is convincingly distressing; I am certain that nobody wants to see any child in difficulty: the portrayal of a child so bereft and betrayed was truly difficult to watch. You will need to remind yourself that she is just acting. If there can be an appropriate award for this then McKenna Grace certainly deserves it, she is utterly believable in her role.

Her performance is every bit as uplifting and inspirational as it is sad, and she expresses love and courage that seem to transcend the plot. She is that good. The film stayed with me for days, and no doubt will be with me for much longer. I truly hope that this young lady enjoys the fruits of her clear and powerful gift.
