At the height of the war with Algeria, Bruno Forestier (Michel Subor), a deserter from the French army joins an extreme right-wing terrorist cell operating in Geneva. To prove his credentials he must assassinate a Swiss journalist who is collaborating with a rival left-wing group supporting the Algerian terrorists. Along the way, Bruno falls in love with Veronica (Anna Karina), who may not be all that she seems. Perhaps Godard's first explicitly political work, the initially banned Le Petit Soldat provides a fascinating glimpse into Godard's filmmaking future.
