When Ethiopian intellectual Anberber returns home after years of studying medicine in Germany, he finds Ethiopia completely transformed into a violent, war-torn country under the rule of Haile Mariam Mengistu. As Anberber tries to determine where he belongs in this new world, he reminisces in flashbacks about his childhood and the cohesive community in his once-bucolic village. Haile Gerima directs this historical drama.
