Synopsis:
Born Harry Lillis Crosby in Tacoma, Washington, in 1903, the legendary Bing Crosby arrived in Hollywood with little money and just an ageing drum-kit. During the next few decades he was to become of the popular movie actors and popular singers in the world, with many hit films and songs to his credit. Bing's first big professional breakthrough came when be was invited to join the ranks of the prestigious Paul Whiteman band as the featured vocalist. His recording career took off in the late 20s and very soon he also broke into the movies. By the time of his death at the age of 74 in 1977, Crosby had appeared in dozens of movies and sold an estimated 300 million records around the world.
'Bing Crosby: Road to Hollywood' charts the early road to fame for this remarkable and well-loved performer. It traces his early performances with the Paul Whiteman orchestra, and at the famous Coconut Grove nightclub, and charts the early Crosby film appearances including clips from 'Ready for the Moon' and 'Check' and 'Double Check' (both 1930). One of the outstanding entertainers of the last century, the early story of Bing Crosby is brilliantly told in 'Road to Hollywood'.
