Rather good French noir of 1959. A bit drawn out, but excellent 'noir' cinematography. Lina Ventura impressive and a treat in having the gorgeous Sandra Milo, who gets a fair bit of screen time. Worth it just to see her.

Rivette is always a challenge. Noirot has an interesting cast and fairly interesting cinematography, but I doubt if any of the cast understood what was going on. There seems to be a political message somewhere, but as with Godard, it remains obscure. For new wave enthusiasts it's worth a watch and Bernadette Lafont and Kika Markham are in it, which is nice.

I agree with CH review. An entertaining crime thriller - not noir. There are some sharp little cracks, such as Shelley Winters, getting roughed up by John Payne: "Hey, who do you think I am, your wife!" Very diverting. Excellent picture quality.

Meet John Doe is a classic, but CP's version is very poor quality, which is a hazard with films of this era. The worst culprits among distributors of ELSTREE films, which are terrible quality. Frank Capra films deserve the best quality discs and these can be found out there.
