Fast and Furious 9

Would say Train Wreck but total Car Crash of a film topped with extra Cheese

(Edit) 30/11/2021

If this film was pizza we'll all be happy, extra cheese for everyone! Seems like with every FF film things get worse, even the most loyal FFS fans will be disappointed in this one. It seems like they forgot what make the franchise popular and instead wanted to follow the James Bond route (which in itself has been dull). For me FF started to to downhill round FF8 and now FF9, Submarines and Space Flights? Really? FF9 is a mash-up off all the characters from the previous episodes and there's just too much going on to tell a good story. After watching you cant help feeling that was intended as the final film but instead changed their minds last minute and even Han, a character so popular that they brought back didn't have much dialogue, you just have the feeling that people were brought in for a few days , done their lines and left. Glad they are finishing things off with FF10, because its getting really bad. Sometimes things are best left as they are instead of straining for a story where there really isn't one anymore. Just compare the first few films to this junk and you see why I'll give 0 stars if the system let me. Trash N Furious.

The Rhythm Section

Falls Flat

(Edit) 31/10/2020

Not good news, another movie where the the trailer oversells the film. I'll cut to the chase, if you're looking for the likes American Assassin, Anna, Nikita, Atomic Blonde or Red Sparrow look elsewhere because this is not it. Not a bad film by any means but just very unsatisfying, as one reviewer pointed out based on a novel, I've not idea if the novels are good or not but perhaps sometimes novels don't translate well to film. Look at the heap of Stephen King stuff, nearly everyone says the books are brilliant, movies? Kinda leaves people saying what the hell?

The film basically follows the emotions of the protagonist where as I would the say the trailer made it out to look more like a revenge action movie. Maybe one for fans of the novels instead. Falls flat in pretty much everyway.

Annihilation

Huge build up that amounts to nothing.

(Edit) 10/04/2019

Cinema Paradiso's own reviews calls this a "near-masterpiece". They must be talking about another film.

Film starts off shaky with the cast, then moves to annoying which sorts of help as at this point you're thinking some of the characters deserved to be killed off anyway.

Without spoiling the films plot details for those who are interested, I'll just say it's a huge disappointment, then again Natalie Portman and Sci-Fi just do not mix, just look at the weakest Star Wars films.

If someone was to fast-farward to the end scene of this film I'm sure most people will agree it's just plain stupid and disappointing.

Killing Gunther

A utter trainwreck flying off the cliff.........

(Edit) 12/07/2018

Someone who starrs and directs in the same film is a tough balancing act and it shows here with Taran Killam (who? yes I know I, I thought the same thing). Whilst the first 20 minutes seems seemingly clever in the plot and the way it was shot seemed refreshing, audiences will very quickly tire as it quickly runs out of steam and what made the audiences laugh at first is now becoming tedius and rather unfunny.

This film is like one of those flash in a pan ideas where at first seems like a good idea but upon reviewing realising there's simply not enough material to make a full movie out of but they carry on. This is one of those films. It falls flat and short in every way.

Audiences seeking salvation that Schwarzenegger will soon (later than sooner in this case) make an appearance with his straight-faced humour delivering killer one-liners will be sorely disappointed. We often read about actors who are only in films for paychecks and care little about what they signed up for. This seems like one of those films where the biggest star was hired purely to boost the films profile, yes we've all fallen for these one time or another.

From Schwarzenegger's standpoint I would it's something he squeezed inbetween schedules, saw free money and took it or had an agent which used voodoo on him. If you're a Arnold fan then I would suggest to avoid this and save tarnishing his image. This truly makes Terminator 3 and Terminator Genisys look like great movies. This is bubblegum for the eyes, literally has no value whatsoever.

The Post

Slow to start but solid performances

(Edit) 12/07/2018

Slow to start with but pace quickens as after 2nd half of the film. Whilst American politics and corrupt presidential power might not to be everyones cup of tea, a lot of reviews here seemed to miss the point and would be similar to saying go read a cook book and hope to find some romatic passages.

To quickly some up the plot is more about a time where unlikely rivals come together. A fight to challenge the establishment inspite the threat against them and what they could all face in a time where freespeech was questionable on certain subjects. Acting is solid and yes the first parts are slow paced with the character building, nobdy said this was a film about Illuminati clues in paintings where they chase across Paris being persued by unsavoury characters, it's just not that that type of time. Hanks and Streep here are no less impressive here than they are in thier best movies.

War for the Planet of the Apes

Mixed reviews but please read, watch and decide for yourself.

(Edit) 12/07/2018

Amazing how the new generation of Planet of the Apes films manage the same subject matter in each movie yet be so different in plot to make it seem like a different film altogether. I would say this is the best movie of the Andy Serkis Planet of the Apes films though all of them are excellent and extremely watchable. Not only does certain parts pay homage to the Heston days but at no point it's in your face and obvious, I would say this is excellently judged by the writers, it would be so easy and temping to look for references from the past in the the modern age of double and triple reboots this film series stays well away from that sort of thing thankfully.

This chapter is wihtout a doubt the most emotionally charge chapter, now that Caesar is older the issues of being a primate that hauted him from a child is every present. Enter Woody Harrelson a twisted antagonist with his own share of problems and motives to see all apes destroyed Harrelsons character is typical Harrelson, strong, fierce and without remorse making him a wise choice for the role he plays.

The motion capture is amazing, it looses none of the acting, huge credit to the actors and CGI artists in telling the stories in a hugely emotional way through the characters CGI eyes. Massively enoyable film, though long it never felt it dragged or slowed in pace. Excellent a great night in.

Reading some of the negative reviews I do wonder if people actually watched properly or just ranting.

"Classic Film is destroyed"? When last few movies don't even follow the classics.

Someone giving 1 Star because "publishers attempt to stop me watching something ive paid for"???! Really?!
