True Detective

Almost the best ever box set

(Edit) 10/01/2020

No disgrace being second best to The Bureau series 1 & 2

This is superb.

Very scary, very dark, many twists of plot, great acting. Probably McConaughey's finest, and he's played some great parts (Dallas Buyers Club, Interstellar)

If you haven't seen it, please do. Book out a couple of days and binge it through

Steel Country

Terrific! If you liked Three Billboards ...

(Edit) Updated 07/10/2019

Andrew Scott makes the unrecognisable jump from Moriarty to Donny the Dustman. Great acting. Great suspense. Along the lines of Three Billboards.

The Children Act

An excellent film

(Edit) 03/05/2019

An excellent book and an excellent film version. Real ethical dilemmas and emotional strains beautifully portrayed, with restraint. Emma Thompson perfectly cast for this story, as in "Wit". Stanley Tucci never puts a a foot wrong in my view , even as a supporting character here. Hats off to Ian McEwan too for great original story and screenplay.

Hidden Figures

Probably one of the top ten fims ever

(Edit) 03/05/2019

I find it hard to find fault with this film. Maybe just the burgeoning relationship between the Johnsons is a little cheesey, and would Costner/Harrison really have taken a sledgehammer to smash the sign? But I'm prepared to forgive such for the overall impact. Allow yourself to be carried fictionally and emotionally, you are in for a treat.
