Palestine 36

Eye catching, moving and utterly untrue.

(Edit) 01/08/2026

According to the definitive history of the 1936 revolt by Oren Kessler, these are the untruths in the film.

Britain transferred land to Jews.

Incorrect. Jews bought land legally from Arabs. (There are, literally, receipts.)

No Arab violence in the film.

In actuality 500 Jews were killed, mostly civilians.

250 British servicemen were killed.

Arab attacks preceded any Jewish retaliation.

Also, in the film, just two words are spoken by a Jewish character.

The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini is never mentioned despite his crucial role in the revolt.

He was the most powerful Arab leader at the time and the head of the Higher Arab Committee.

He later met Hitler and collaborated with Nazi Germany.

Also the British are misrepresented by false depictions of crops being burned, houses being burned with civilians inside and random executions.

Also claimed that Christian Arabs took up arms against the British.

The historian Dr. James Heartfield says of the film, 'Eye catching, moving and utterly untrue.'
