Synopsis:
This is one of the more interesting titles to come out in a long time. Over the course of two video's it uses vintage footage to document the transition of universities during the 20th century into modern educational facilities. At the start of the 1900's, universities were mostly places where the white male elite would form business contacts that would last them a lifetime. As such they were very conservative. By the end of the 20th century universities would see women, minorities and radical liberalism become the rule instead of the exception. That is the story told on the interesting clips on this video set.
You can see when universities first started admitting "negroes" during wartime, get great footage of the 1969 Columbia University student revolt and how women entered universities during World War II. Perhaps the most fascinating clip shows women at Iowa State taking home economics courses - rather than the "serious" study the male students were receiving. All in all this video set gives a great picture of how much progress has been made at American universities over the past few decades.
