Synopsis:
He discovered and produced the Beatles, arranged music for Elvis Presley and put Al Martino back on the map with Spanish Eyes. International stars such as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Shirley Bassey and Ella Fitzgerald sang his compositions and orchestra directors like Duke Ellington and Count Basie included his compositions in their repertoire.
The artist himself had his great breakthrough with "Strangers In The Night" - a century hit. We are talking about Bert Kaempfert, born in 1923 in Hamburg, who conquered the world with his music. Before the ;Lifetime Achievement Award" was posthumously conferred to him by the American collecting society BMI though he had to tread a long hard road built up on about 400 compositions and more than 750 arrangements. the latter did not only immortalise him musically but also were the fundament for sales figures in 1980. After numerous awards Bert Kaempfert and his likewise deceased friend and co-author Herbert Rehbein in 1993 were paid the ultimate international honour: at a gala ceremony in New York they were admitted to the Songwriters' Hall of Fame.
In this documentary, reaching from the golden twenties to the disco era, Kaempfert's relatives, colleagues and friends like Freddy Quinn, James Last and Brenda Lee have their say and the film invites you to a musical reunion with Nat "King" Cole, Caterina Valente and many more.
