Synopsis:
Champion Jack Dupree performs at Sound track Studios and Radhustroen in Copenhagen, Denmark and at his home in Hanover, Germany. Recorded in 1986 with the Kenn Lending Blues Band, featuring Kenn Lending, Svenni Svafnisson, Kjeld Lauritsen, Frank Larsen and Jorgen Lang also featuring Louisiana Red.
This colourful tape was recorded in early 1986 at various locations in Europe. Dupree has lived there for many years where he has enjoyed great freedom and success. Originally from New Orleans, Dupree moved to Europe in part to avoid the horrible racism in America. And he suffered it first hand - his parents were both killed by the Ku Klux Klan when he was only one year old. He ended up in a New Orleans orphanage, the same one where Louis Armstrong lived, and his musical interest began. In fact Alberta, which he performs on this tape, was his first composition and he wrote it there.
It seems best to end with a few words from Champion Jack. "Singing a blues is like writing a letter. Everything I sing about is a part of my life, either something that's happened to me or people I know...it's like making up pictures in your head, like a kind of movie, and it ends up as a blues."
