Meet Mr. Gary Sparrow (Nicholas Lyndhurst), just an ordinary bloke with an extraordinary life; almost a devoted and attentive husband, and a sometimes loyal and dependable best friend, but now a doting father with extraordinary tales of daring 1940;s heroism. By day Gary Sparrow is a mere memorabilia salesman in a small shop in Whitechapel, but by night, he's a time traveller extraordinaire and a daring MI5 secret agent. In the east end of London lies a strange alley called Duckett's Passage, which leads Gary back to war torn London, to his wife Phoebe (Elizabeth Carling) and their son, Michael (Tim Preston). In the 1940's Gary is desperate to move 'up west' for the sake of his young family, whilst Phoebe is having elocution lessons from none other than Noel Coward (David Benson). And just who is Tufty McDuff (Timothy West) and why is he so desperate for Gary to wear a false moustache and visit the Isle of Wight? And what on earth has happened to Reg (Christopher Ettridge)? Meanwhile, in the present day, the ever ambitious Yvonne (Emma Amos) is now a successful millionairess and a health consultant to the stars, while the hapless Ron (Victor McGuire) is desperate, single and broke. Oh, and sis we mention that the time portal is broken? Just what would happen if Phoebe met Yvonne?
