- Synopsis:
- The English National Opera presents Handel's interpretation of Shakespeare's classic, in this 1984 studio production. Soprano Janet Baker stars as the man destroyed by treacherous friends and advisors in a struggle for control of the Roman Empire. Valerie Masterson shares the spotlight as Cleopatra, a role expanded for Handel's adaptation. The opera is performed in an English translation under the direction of Sir Charles MacKerras.
