Synopsis:
A series of films devoted to great works in painting history. Thanks to recent developments in video animation technique, the secrets of these images are revealed. The first painting, Hokusai's 'The Overhanging Threat' is an image of suspended destiny that has travelled around the world in the form of a picture postcard, a poster and an advertisement. The second painting featured is Shitao's 'A Single Brush Stroke'. A Descendant of the Ming dynasty, imbued with Buddhist spirituality, Shitao was one of the most skilful painters of his time. His painting, which has an indissoluble tie with writing, uses the simplicity of the stroke and the white of the paper.
Behind the simplicity of his most famous work, unfolds an entire universe of secret connections, allusions and hidden figures that one must learn to decipher. The final painting is the Persian Miniature 'The Gardens Of Heaven'. From the Baghdad school (14th century) to the school of Qadjar (19th century), Persian painting has remained surprisingly vital. As a court art mainly dedicated to book illustrations, it has also been taught in schools and by great masters.
